Library management software for books, loans, ISBN, barcode, Dewey and OPAC
PowerBK is a Windows library management and book cataloging software designed for private libraries, schools, associations, universities, small organizations, bookstores and book collectors.
The software helps users organize books, magazines and ebooks in a structured catalog and provides dedicated tools for managing bibliographic information, loans, returns, contacts, barcodes and library-related activities.
One of PowerBK's key features is the ability to retrieve book information automatically from online bibliographic sources. Users can search by ISBN or other data and import available metadata from services such as Google Books, Open Library, Crossref and OPAC SBN, reducing manual data entry and helping create more complete book records.
PowerBK supports the management of bibliographic details such as title, author, publisher, ISBN, publication information, cover images and other metadata. It also includes support for the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), allowing libraries and structured collections to organize books according to a widely used classification system.
The software includes dedicated functions for book loans and returns. Each loan can be associated with a borrower or customer, checkout date, expected return date, actual return date, optional amount and additional information. A dedicated loan search screen makes it easier to review current and previous transactions, while scheduling features help monitor upcoming and overdue returns. Email reminders can also be sent to borrowers when needed.
PowerBK can additionally manage book sales and other library-material transactions, making it suitable not only for traditional libraries but also for associations, private collections and organizations that need to keep track of different types of book movements.
Barcode readers can be used to speed up book identification, cataloging and loan operations. PowerBK also supports the creation and printing of labels and provides several search, filtering, printing and reporting tools.
Data can be imported from and exported to common formats, including Excel and CSV, and in many cases existing archives from Microsoft Access or other management applications can also be migrated. This makes PowerBK suitable for users who currently manage their collections with spreadsheets and want to move to a dedicated library management system.
For multi-user environments, PowerBK can work with a database shared between multiple computers on a local network and can also use a remote MySQL database, allowing several workstations to access the same archive.
PowerBK is available in different editions depending on the size and requirements of the library. Users can choose between annual licenses and perpetual licenses, with no mandatory subscription. A free demo is available for evaluation before purchase, and software updates are released regularly and free of charge.
Developed by PowerWolf Software Solutions, PowerBK has been continuously developed since 2010 and is intended to provide an affordable and practical solution for managing both personal book collections and more structured library environments.
